Shuber – Not Uber!

High Heeled Shoes from Christian Louboutin

I recently learnt a new word the other day, ‘SHUBER!’

If you think it’s related to the uber, successful American Technology company, that operates in over 570 cities worldwide, that primarily market and operate the, UBER‘ car transportation & food delivery mobile apps, (wikipedia) you wouldn’t be wrong.  (Let’s not focus on how the founder, Travis Kalanick, recently stepped down from the company.)

However the word is actually related to world of Fashion & Retail, if you can believe it.  According to the May 31 – June 6, 2017, UAE issue, of style bible GRAZIAit means “shoes so uncomfortable, that you’ll need round the clock ubers!”

It just made me feel, sort of violated when I read what the term meant!  I mean when did we get back to the time in life; where women had to give in to societal pressure, of wearing shoes so incredibly uncomfortable, just to ‘look good!’

I really thought that we were past all of that!  If we look to the catwalks, of some the most prestigious haute couture fashion houses and stores, they now all have flat versions of their high heeled shoes, as well as a lot of urban shoes, such as trainers.

My take on the subject, would be not to give into popular public opinion, that wearing ULTRA ULTRA high heels makes you look HOT!  Wear what makes you feel comfortable, what makes you feel sexy, and you’ll exude SEXINESS, with the amount of confidence that you’re strutting your stuff in!

Singer, songwriter, actress & all around gorgeous human being, Alicia Keys, recently said, “Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me.” (

In this particular context, Alicia Keys is talking about makeup specifically, and what insanely HIGH standards, the beauty, fashion and entertainment industries have for women these days. The tension and trouble, women go through every day, to look immaculate, and ‘beautiful,’ or ‘normal,’ only we as women would know!

But her quote is obviously not just limited or restricted to ‘beauty,’ in terms of what our makeup choices are, but what clothes we wear, as well as what our FOOTWEAR choices happen to be.
